FUNDING
STEP was hit hard by the recession and is actively seeking contributions. We lost over $700,000 dollars –or half our budget—in government support during FY10. Our three program sites have been drastically downsized. Despite such setbacks, our stalwart staff has continued to serve—as best they can— all the people who come through our doors.

SITING
STEP’s Boston site must find a new location for its downtown services, because our current location is slated for future redevelopment. From 1978 to 1993 we were blessed with free space, compliments of the US Coast Guard Support Center Boston. From there STEP moved to 131 Beverly St. between North Station and the Charlestown Bridge in a building referred to as part of the Lovejoy Project. First proposed 5-6 years ago, the project was stalled due to the failed economy, and plans are to “mothball” the site for now. Our dream is to purchase 5,000 square feet of first floor space in the North End/ Waterfront/ North Station area. We are looking for open space to build out to our specifications and welcome your support to help us reach this goal.
